THE SEAT OF ASANAS - Precision, Focus, Alignment

This class is taught by:

Irene Wong

Irene Wong-Bushby received her HITA Certification at the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, Pa. where she began her yogic journey in the early 1990's. Over the years, Irene has evolved her own practice to the systematic Iyengar method of yoga with its focus on muscular skeletal alignment. Since 2010, Irene has been studying regularly with Iyengar teachers and is in training for the first level of Iyengar certification. Through her passion for the practice, Irene enjoys coaching students on the use of yoga as a tool for balance in daily life. In 2010 Irene took an early retirement from her Java development career to pursue a full-time career in teaching. Currently Irene teaches online in the Information and Technology Systems Department of UMUC. In addition, Irene teaches yoga in the adult education program at Northampton Community College in Tannersville, Pa.

This method of yoga brings focus to the correct muscular and skeletal alignment of poses using isometric, weight-bearing actions. *Please note this particular style of yoga does NOT consist of flow as it brings unique attention to correctly positioning the physical body which compliments the development of strength, flexibility and stamina both physically and mentally. As a result students may begin to create progress, systematically and safely, in their practice. This style of yoga brings emphasis to props, modifications and adjustments; which are provided based on individual student needs.
The intense focus on proper alignment attempts to teach students to self-observe in order to develop stronger concentration and awareness in their yoga practice. The belief that insight may be attained through developing the ability to focus may become a valuable skill to apply to daily life; particularly for stress management and emotional balance.
*This class is suitable for beginner students but is designed specifically for practicing yogis.
